Panchak is an astrological term that arises during the transit of the Moon in various Nakshatras:-

At some point or the other in our lives, we all must have heard about Panchak. It is considered an inauspicious time in Indian astrology. It is prohibited to do some special work during Panchak. According to Indian astrology, when the moon stays in Aquarius and Pisces, then that time is called Panchak.

That is, the five constellations (Dhanishtha, Shatabhisha, Purva Bhadrapada, Uttara Bhadrapada, and Revati) from Ghanishtha to Revati are called Panchak.

Effect of Nakshatras:-

A. There is fear of fire in Dhanishtha Nakshatra.

B. There are chances of discord in Shatabhisha Nakshatra.

C. Purvabhadrapada is the causative constellation.

D. In Uttara Bhadrapada, there is punishment in the form of money.

E. There is a possibility of a loss of money. Revati Nakshatra.

If due to circumstances a person dies during the Panchak period, then five effigies made of flour or kush (a type of grass) should be kept on the bier along with the dead body and these five should also be cremated like a dead body according to the rules and regulations. So Panchak Dosh ends. It is mentioned in many religious texts including Garuda Purana.
