Maa Mahagauri — Eighth day of Navratri

Mata Mahagauri is worshiped on the eighth day of Navratri. Mother definitely accepts the prayers made by the devotees with a sincere heart. The meaning of name of Mahagauri is Maha means great/big and Gauri means fair. Due to the fair complexion of the goddess, she was called Mahagauri.

Form of Mata Mahagauri

Goddess Mahagauri has four arms and rides Vrishabha. She is holding Abhaya Mudra with one right hand, Trishul in the other right hand, Damru in one hand and Vara Mudra with the other left hand.

Mythological beliefs

According to mythological beliefs, Goddess Parvati did severe penance regardless of heat, cold and rain to get Lord Shiva as her husband, due to which her complexion turned black. After that Shiva was pleased with her penance and bathed with the holy water of the Ganges, after which the complexion of the goddess became fair. Since then she came to be called Mahagauri.

Goddess Mahagauri controls the planet Rahu. The evil effects of Rahu are reduced by worshiping the Goddess.
